How to Make Paper Beads

Making paper beads is a simple way to dive into the jewelry making hobby. It is also low cost and you have a lot of control over the looks and style of your beads too. For those who create on a low budget, creating paper beads is also very cost effective, and still allows for beautiful and fashionable jewelry. If you are creating a project, and can’t find the beads that you are looking for, then this is where you can make your very own bead collection!

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Colored Paper: pages from magazines or catalogs, newspapers, or wrapping paper
  • Ruler or straight edge
  • Scissors or exacto knife
  • Toothpicks
  • Marker
  • Glue
  • Varnish or clear finger nail polish
  • Bead wire or elastic
Step 1

Browse through magazines, catalogs, wrapping paper, or the colored comic strips in newspapers. Find colors that catch your eye, or the kinds of colors that you would like to use in your bead designs.

Step 2

Make a mark at every ¾ inch at the bottom of your page.

Step 3

Draw a line across the width of your paper at least 6 inches from the bottom edge. Cut across that line. Then make a mark at every ½ inch across the top at the edge where you just cut.

Step 4

Use a straight edge or your ruler to connect the places where you have marked so that they form small triangles. Using your scissors or exacto knife, cut your triangles.
